Cricketer Harbhajan Singh has been associated with the entertainment industry for a while now, as many film celebrities are his friends. He was even part of a reality TV show in 2008, and did cameos in a couple of movies as well. Now, the sportsman is excited about judging a comedy reality TV show with former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar.

Admitting that comedy is tough, Harbhajan tells it like it is. “To make people laugh is difficult. But whatever one does should be within limits. Then, it works out. Otherwise, overdoing anything backfires. For example, if you eat too much, you end up with an upset stomach,” he says, adding, “Comedy should make you laugh. It shouldn’t insult or put someone down. One should present comedy that a family audience can watch.”

The cricketer had fun shooting for the TV show with Shoaib, who is a “good friend”. “On this comedy show, we will have many popular comedians. I hope it is fun,” he says. Ask him if judging a show is easy money, and he says, “Playing [cricket] is tough. There is the pressure to perform. But judging is easy. It’s a job that requires you to be focused and involved, and be aware of the emotions of the participants while giving your reaction.”

Talking about Shoaib, Harbhajan recalls that they “became friends when he (Shoaib) came to India on his first tour” many years ago. He adds, “He is like an elder brother. We share a warm relationship. Sometimes, we used to fight on the ground (during a match) and then have dinner together in the evening. He is a jolly, fun-loving person. It’s great to catch up with your old mate.”
