What is it with authors revealing vital plot information outside the books these days? First it was JK Rowling, posting something new about the Harry Potter universe almost every day and now it is George RR Martin.

Martin has let loose a very big Game of Thrones spoiler on the world for no apparent reason. The author was asked by a fan on during a recent chat on his

LiveJournal

whether or not Stannis Baratheon was actually dead and Martin gave a clear reply:

We last saw Stannis lie defeated on the battleground in the last episode of the series' fifth season with a sword wielding Brienne in front of him, ready to chop his head off. Only at the last moment, when the sword was just about to make contact with his neck, the scene was cut to black. It more or less made it final that the 'one true king' wasn't dead, that Brienne had spared his life.

And now, even with all the red herrings that were thrown in our path by the producers and creators, Martin has cleared whatever little doubt we had.

At the San Diego Comic Con this year, the episode's director David Nutter said that the intention behind the scene was that he was indeed dead. What is going on you guys? What are you doing?

All that we know now is that

on this series anymore and maybe, just maybe, more dead will rise again (crossing our fingers for Jon Snow).

However, there is another catch to it all. Martin asked 'In my books?' before answering the question and after last scene we know that the directors have now a mind of their own and they may or may not follow the books.

Olly stabbing Jon Snow (and the hearts of all the fan-girls) in the last episode.

But we are still hoping against all hope that Jon Snow will still be with us next season.
