Four persons, including a BJP leader, were on Thursday arrested in connection with the murder of Renukoot town area chairman Shivpratap late on Monday night, police said. As per the police four other accused in the case were still on the run.
Sonbhadra SP Prabhakar Chaudhary said former chairman of Renukoot town area Anil Singh, his brothers Brijesh Singh and Rakesh Singh besides their accomplice Jamuna Singh were arrested for their involvement in the murder of Shivpratap Singh.
The SP said during interrogation the accused revealed that local BJP leader Anil Singh developed enmity with Shivpratap during the election for post of town area chairman in 2017.
Both the factions fought after the polls and police registered a case in this connection.
The SP said Jamuna Singh and Brijesh Singh told the police that they hired shooters from Bihar, gave them weapons and also paid them Rs 25,000 for eliminating Shivpratap Singh.
The SP said police teams had been deployed to ensure the arrest four other accused who were still at large.
After the murder, police had registered a case against five persons, including Anil Singh, Brajesh Singh, Rakesh Singh and Jamuna Singh and one unidentified person under relevant sections of the IPC with Pipari police station in the district.
