India’s representative to the United Nations delivered a strong statement in response to the Special Rapporteur’s report on the human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The Indian delegate emphasized that while environmental impact assessments (EIAs) are important, the report failed to address core global responsibilities such as the principle of Common But Differentiated Responsibilities (CBDR-RC), the transfer of clean technologies, and financial commitments by developed nations. Highlighting India’s record as the only G20 country to meet its climate targets ahead of time, the statement reiterated India’s commitment to balance development and sustainability, reduce emissions intensity by 45% by 2030, and pursue harmony with nature as a guiding principle of its environmental policy.
