Kerala struggles to regain normalcy post the floods

Updated on Aug 23, 2018 12:33 pm IST

People residing near Mullaperiyar Dam in Vandiperiyar town of Idukki district of Kerala struggled to clean their house. Residents are facing acute shortage of drinking water and electricity. Survivors of Kerala's worst floods in the century are struggling to restart their normal lives after the devastation left by the massive flooding across state.

The Union government's response to the crisis in Kerala, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of Rs 500-crore financial aid to the state, triggered a backlash from the Opposition that accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not doing enough.
