6 dead as heavy rain lashes Vadodara; airport, schools shut

Gujarat's Vadodara has been reeling under torrential downpour. Heavy rains forced authorities to shut down airport as well as terminate and reschedule trains services. At least 6 people died in rain-related incidents. The city received 442mm of rain in just 12 hours between 8am and 8pm on Wednesday, the highest in Gujarat in the period, said a release by the state government. Of this, 286mm of rain fell in just four hours ending at 8pm, the release added. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places over Gujarat.
