Anti-Citizenship law protests: SC redirects petitions to High Courts

Supreme Court redirected petitions regarding protests against the Citizenship law to appropriate High Courts. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant heard the arguments of lawyers Indira Jaising and Colin Gonsalves. The latter claimed that it was the police which was indulging in violence and an inquiry by a retired Justice of the apex court was needed. The top court disagreed, saying it's not a trial court and doesn't have to assume jurisdiction for whatever happens across the country. SC asked the petitioners to approach the pertinent High Courts.
