Assam: Over 600 militants of 8 outfits surrender, submit over 170 weapons

Over 600 members of 8 militant outfits agreed to join the mainstream on Thursday. They officially laid down their arms at a ceremony organised in Assam's capital city, Guwahati. 644 militants belonging to outfits like ULFA(I), NDFB, RNLF, KLO, CPI (Maoist), NSLA, ADF, NLFB gave up their arms. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the ceremony. Assam Police called it 'time for a new beginning'. Director General of Assam Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the surrendered militants would be rehabilitated under Project Swabalamban.
