Covid update: Theatres open in Maharashtra; SII CEO on vaccine’s availability
From Cinema halls opening in Maharashtra to Covishield's expected availability in India, here are the top updates on the coronavirus pandemic. Maharashtra government allows cinema halls, multiplexes, theatres, yoga institutes outside containment zones to open from Thursday. Cinema halls, multiplexes, auditorium to operate with 50% seating capacity, as per new rules. Meanwhile, domestic airlines can now operate 60% of their pre-Covid-19 flights till February 24 next year, the Ministry of Civil Aviation notified on Wednesday. On June 26, the ministry had allowed domestic airlines to operate 45% of their pre-Covid flights. Also, Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla said the vaccine in India will be available by January 2021. SII is working with AstraZeneca on potential Covid-19 vaccine Covishield.
