Cyclone Vayu | Over 1 lakh evacuated ahead of cyclone’s landfall in Gujarat
'Very severe cyclonic storm' Vayu is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on June 13. The state is on alert with personnel of the National Disaster Response Force being deployed and over 1 lakh people being evacuated from low-lying areas, according to reports. Strong winds and waves were seen lashing the coast in Porbandar. The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, held a meeting with officials to review preparedness for the cyclone. He also appealed to tourists to be careful and take shelter in safe places ahead of the cyclone. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of flooding and disruption of power and communication due to the storm.
