Hindustan Times explains why political parties focus on caste, rather than class or economic stature, of voters while drawing up their poll strategies. By analysing the distribution of various caste groups in various economic classes, it was found that although the upper castes occupy a greater space among richest Indians relative to their proportion in the population, the share varies from region to region.
