India backs Macron against ‘personal attacks’; condemns teacher’s beheading

Updated on Oct 29, 2020 02:18 pm IST

India has come out strongly in support of French President Emmanuel Macron over attacks from several Muslim majority nations. 'We strongly deplore the personal attacks in unacceptable language on President Emmanuel Macron in violation of the most basic standards of international discourse,' a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said. The statement also condemned the beheading of the teacher in France for showing caricatures of Prophet Muhammad to his students during a free speech class. 'We offer our condolences to his family and the people of France. There is no justification for terrorism for any reason or under any circumstance,' the statement read. Several nations have been attacking Macron for his statements made in the aftermath of the beheading of a teacher in France. Macron had said that 'Islamists want our future' and had added that France would not give up cartoons. Turkish President Erdogan had urged Macron to have 'mental checks' for treating 'millions of members from different faith groups this way.' Tensions have also escalated after Charlie Hebdo published a caricature of the Turkish President. Watch the full video for all the details.
