Kerala floods blame game: why fixing responsibility is a must?
Published on Aug 24, 2018 07:01 pm IST
In the latest, the Kerala government has pinned blame for the deadly floods on Mullaperiyar dam and Tamil Nadu government. Now the Pinarayi Vijayan government says the sudden release of water from the Mullaperiyar dam by the Tamil Nadu government was the chief cause of the Kerala floods. Tamil Nadu is expectedly outraged by this claim. They are asking one key question in their defence. “If Vijayan govt says that excess water was discharged from Mullaperiyar then how did water reach all parts of Kerala?” All the finger pointing and blame game is unlikely to stop anytime soon. That said, fixing timely responsibility will go a long way in preventing future disasters from acquiring catastrophic proportions.
