‘Man-eater’ tigress Avni killed in Maharashtra

Updated on Nov 03, 2018 03:48 pm IST

Man-eater tigress, Avni was killed in Maharashtra's Yavatmal on November 2. Avni had killed 14 people in Pandharkawada forest. Maharashtra Forest Department had earlier issued shoot-at-sight orders. Locals in Yavatmal celebrated Avni's killing. The post-mortem is to be conducted at Nagpur's Gorewada Rescue Centre. The six-year-old tigress and her two cubs were blamed for the killings in Pandharkawda and Ralegaon regions, triggering unrest among locals. An order to shoot the tigress in September had triggered protests from wildlife activists, who moved the Supreme Court, which, however, approved the shooting.
