Meet Jignesh Mevani, the man behind the current Dalit unrest in Gujarat, the one who convinced people of the Dalit community to take a pledge to boycott their traditional jobs of skinning dead cows. This 35-year old activist is the convenor of the Una Dalit Atyachar Ladai Samiti. He had mobilised members of the Dalit community for the Mahasabha in Ahmadabad on July 31. Mevani is a qualified lawyer and worked as a journalist in Mumbai between 2004 and 2008.
