A man was arrested and another detained in connection with a pregnant elephant's killing in Kerala's Palakkad. The accused were held by joint investigation teams of police and forest departments. Identified as P Wilson, the arrested man works with an estate that cultivates cash crops and spices. The accused reportedly said they set up a snare of fruit filled with crackers to scare wild boars. State's forest minister K Raju said there will be more arrests by evening. The elephant killing incident came to light on May 27 when forest officer Mohan Krishnan wrote a Facebook post after witnessing the death. The elephant rushed to nearby Velliyar river after eating the fruit and died there. The crackers exploded when the elephant chomped on the pineapple. The killing of the 15-year-old elephant triggered countrywide protests.
