Watch: Ex-President Pranab Mukherjee bats for increasing Lok Sabha strength
Updated on Mar 11, 2020 11:28 am IST
Former President Pranab Mukherjee has called for raising the strength of Lok Sabha to 1,000 lawmakers. He cited the increase in population since 1977, when an embargo on increasing the number of seats in legislative bodies was imposed, as the rationale behind his call. The former President said that one MP is now representing around 16-18 lakh people and hence it was difficult for them to be in touch with the electors.
