Fuel prices soar for 11th consecutive day. The centre is under pressure to bring down the prices. The government is seeking long-term solution instead of resorting to ad hoc measures. After a 19-day hiatus in the run-up to the Karnataka polls, the price of petrol and diesel have gone up over Rs 2 per litre across metros in the last 11 days. On May 24, prices rose by around 30 paise in metro cities. In Delhi and Mumbai, the fuel now costs Rs 77.47 and Rs 85.29 per litre, up from the May 23 prices of Rs 77.17 and Rs 84.99 respectively. Congress leader and former union finance minister P Chidambaram criticised the Centre for the fuel price hike. He claimed that petrol prices can be reduced by Rs 25 per litre, but the government are not doing so.
