11 convicts in Godhra case awarded death sentence

Eleven out of thirty one convicts in the Godhra train burning case were given death sentence by a special Court today. Rest 20 were awarded life sentence in the 2002 case that left 59 Karsevaks dead and triggered riots in Gujarat. Special judge PR Patel, considering the case of 11 convicts as 'rarest of rare', pronounced death for them, while the prosecution had sought the death sentence for all the convicts. Court also passed separate sentences for different offences like looting, firing. The accused have been fined as well.
