30 killed in K'taka accident, 100,000 compensation announced

At least 30 people, including 10 children, were burnt to death early Sunday when the state-run bus they were travelling in fell off a bridge into a ditch and caught fire in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. Reportedly, the accident took place around 3.30 am and on the bus was on its way to Bangalore from Surpur. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, announced a compensation of Rs.100,000 for each victim from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
