6th day: Kashmir encounter continues

Chief of Indian Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor, on Monday asserted that the security operation against militants lodged in the Mendhar forest area is still on and the army would be able to get to the militants soon. The gun battle entered its sixth day on Tuesday. According to defence sources, an intense gun battle is being waged, with army troops firing rockets and mortars at militant cave hideouts in the Bhati Dhar forest area.
