Koumik village situated at a height of 4275 meters above sea level, in Himachal Pradesh has been declared Asia's highest village. The scenic Koumik, situated in the Lahaul-Spiti district of the mountainous state, is famous for the Lundup Tsemo Gonpa monastery, believed to be housing 'Matrey Buddha' or the future Buddha. Tourists visiting the state are amazed, seeing people live at such a high altitude, almost isolated from the rest of the civilisation.
