Activists demand Chidambaram's resignation over Maoists encounter

Updated on Jul 12, 2012 01:51 pm IST

A fact-finding team of human rights activists that visited Maoist infested Chhattisgarh, has demanded the resignation of the home minister P Chidambaram over the overnight encounter with rebels in which at least 17 suspected Maoists were killed. Gupta completely denied the government report, saying it contains wrong facts and findings. No Maoist meeting took place in the area and neither was any rebel killed. According to reports, in a bid to pacify the villagers, the CRPF personnel brought relief material to the villages, but the families of those killed refused their offer out of pent up anger.
