Residents of Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Thursday expressed concern about the consequences of the imminent withdrawal of U.S. troops from the conflict-ridden country. But the spokesman for the defence ministry, General Zahir Azimy, welcomed the withdrawal and maintained that the Afghan army is 'fully ready'. U.S. President Barack Obama announced a plan on Wednesday to start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan in a first step toward ending the long, costly war and returning the U.S.'s focus toward its own troubled economy.
