Assam reeling under floods

The onset of monsoons has wrought havoc to India's northeastern region. The region is reeling under heavy floods. Incessant monsoon rains have claimed twenty-five lives in Assam's Lakhimpur district alone. According to the district authorities, 366 villages and more than 400,000 people have been affected by the first wave of floods. Red alert has been sounded and the army is continuing rescue efforts in the region.
