Bhupen Hazarika laid to rest

Music maestro Bhupen Hazarika's last rites were performed in Guwahati on Wednesday. Thousands gathered at the Gauhati University, where Hazarika was cremated with full state honors, to bid a final good-bye to the legendary singer. Hazarika's 60-year-old son Tez Bhupen Hazarika, performed the last rites, while his companion of nearly 40 years Kalpana Lajmi, nephews and other family members performed religious rituals. A 21-gun salute by the Assam police was given to the late singer, lyricist, composer and filmmaker.
