Incidence of avian flu and the culling of the affected birds in Bengal has caused an acute shortage of feathers and this has severely hit the shuttlecock industry in Jalandhar. The shuttlecock industry is already reeling under the impact of the Indian Government's 2006 ban on import of goose feathers from China.
