Buddhists celebrate birthday of 8th century monk

Buddhists in Sikkim state celebrated the birthday of eighth century monk, Guru Rinpoche. Buddhist devotes said the celebrations commemorated the guru's contribution to world peace. Hundreds of Buddhist monks and locals participated in the festivities. Guru Rimpoche is also known as Guru Padmasambhava. Acharya Padmasambhava was a Tantric master who founded the Vajrayana Buddhism, which took firm roots in Tibet in the 8th century.
