Cabinet nod for stricter anti-rape laws

With an aim to curb crimes against women, the Union cabinet on Friday issued an ordinance that implements tougher jail terms for sexual offenders, as recommended by the Justice JS Verma Commission. According to the ordinance, death sentence or imprisonment for the rest of the convict's life should be awarded in extreme rape cases.The ordinance, however, does not cover marital rape.
