Cherry fruit is emerging as a profitable alternative cash crop. It is gaining popularity among the traditionally apple growing farmers in Himachal Pradesh. Cherry growers in Shimla are happy as they are getting more benefits in Cherry fruit than the apple crop. They say the fast-growing crop is giving them good returns, as production cost is much lower compared to the apple crop. Moreover, the season for cherries falls much before the apple blossoms.
