Congress defends itself on steep petrol price hike

Congress spokesperson, Manish Tewari defended his party facing acute criticism over rising petroleum prices and said that the responsibility of fixing fuel prices lies with oil companies. State-run oil companies raised the price of petrol by rupees 7.50 with effect for the first time in more than six months in a gesture of fiscal discipline that economists said is unlikely to give a significant lift to the embattled rupee.
