Deepda Darwaja case: 22 convicted, 61 acquitted

A special trial court today convicted 22 people in the Deepda Darwaja massacre case in which 11 members of a family were burnt alive by a mob during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The court acquitted 61 accused in the case including former BJP MLA of Visnagar Prahladbhai Mohanlal Patel who had led the mob. The case had been going on for more than past 10 years. The punishment will be decided later.
