Deforestation in the name of cricket in Himachal Pradesh
Updated on Jan 15, 2010 09:13 pm IST
A five-star cricketers' residential complex is stirring controversy in Himachal Pradesh these days. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) is building the Pavilion Residential Complex in Kandi village, which is near the Dharamshala. The move comes after the city was chosen to host two matches during the lucrative Indian Premier League tournament, which takes place in April this year. P K Dhumal, the state's Chief Minister, laid the foundation stone for the complex last year on December 20. However, a large number of trees are being chopped down for the construction and the opposition Congress Party is raising questions over it.
