Ahead of the Hindu festival of lights,Diwali, the demand for traditional earthen lamps has risen in Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh, despite the advent of fancy electrical lights.Potters engaged in creating diyas, the traditional earthen lamps, said that although people opted for less cumbersome and more glitzy plastic and electric lamps, the importance of diyas could not be undermined as they were very much in demand.Available in different designs, the price tags of earthen lamps range between Re 1 to a few hundred, depending upon the size, style and embellishments.
