England makes decent start against India at Lord's test

Updated on Jul 22, 2011 10:31 pm IST

England was two down for 127 after bad weather conditions stopped the first day's play in the first test against India at Lord's on Thursday. No play was possible after tea in the 2,000th test and the 100th between the two countries with England being asked to bat by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni after he won the toss and elected to bowl. Jonathan Trott, the most fluent of the English batsmen in testing conditions with the ball swinging late under heavy cloud cover, was on 58 after surviving two difficult chances while Kevin Pietersen had reached 22 from 73 balls. Openers Andrew Strauss (22) and Alastair Cook (12) were both dismissed by Zaheer Khan.
