Erratic weather spells doom for stone fruit farmers
Updated on Mar 28, 2007 06:43 pm IST
Stone fruit farmers in India's northern Shimla have been hit hard by the erratic weather conditions that damaged blossoming flowers of various fruit crops. Fruits crops such as plums, peaches and almonds are most susceptible during the flowering period and hostile weather spells disaster for the entire fruit-setting process. The unseasonal rains and snowfall, which had caused the rising temperatures to drop drastically, has dampened prospects of a good yield.
