Family rejoices as Tejaswini clinches gold

Updated on Aug 09, 2010 10:57 pm IST

Tejaswini Sawant became the first Indian woman shooter to win gold at the World Championships with a world-record equalling score in the 50m rifle prone event in Munich. Sawant shot a score of 597 in the 50 m Rifle Prone event, equalling the 1998 record set by Russia's Marina Bobkova. She was level with Poland's Ewa Joanna Nowakowska in the final score, but managed to clinch the top honours with a better perfect score tally of 41. No wonder, Tejaswini's family was elated at her achievement.
