Flood fever looms large in capital; govt says 'no need to panic'

The national capital New Delhi may witness 1978 type floods as River Yamuna continues to flow above the danger level of 204.83 meters and may even go up to 207 meters by Friday, which may flood low-lying areas. The release of 800,000 cusecs of water from Hathnikund Barrage into Yamuna on Wednesday by Haryana in addition to continuous rains is adding to the woes. The threat of flood has prompted authorities to ask people living in low-lying areas to shift to safer places. Locals living by the riverbank have suffered huge losses to livestock and property.
