Govt optimistic it will wipe out polio by 2008

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday urged Uttar Pradesh and Bihar - the two states accounting for 90 per cent of fresh polio cases in India - to strengthen "political oversight" to fight and eradicate the disease from the country. Addressing a meeting of state health ministers on polio, Ramadoss also said that the country is looking forward to be polio free by 2008.
