Guru’s execution: 2nd-day curfew in Kashmir
Updated on Feb 10, 2013 01:25 pm IST
Strict curfew has been imposed in Kashmir for the second consecutive day today in anticipation of violence following the execution of Kashmiri militant Afzal Guru. The curfew was observed in Srinagar and in several parts of the Kashmir valley where no movement was allowed on the streets as police personnel are patrolling and keeping a strict vigil. Hundreds of paramilitary forces and local police were deployed to the region, which is prone to separatist violence. The execution of Afzal Guru, who was sentenced to death 10 years ago for an attack on the parliament in 2001, took place on February 10, after the president rejected the mercy petition given by his wife.
