Security has been stepped on railways in Varanasi city after receipt of a letter purportedly sent by a Bangladesh-based banned terror outfit Harkat-ul Jihad-e-Islami. Police said they have sounded alerts and are undertaking enhanced security checks while sensitizing the public. A similar drill has been undertaken on trains and railway properties by railway police in most northern states, including Punjab.
