India ready with oral cholera vaccine

The National Institute for Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) in Kolkata has successfully completed the trial of an oral cholera vaccine (OCV). The oral vaccine named Shanchol has been approved in India, based on the results of a trial on 110,000 human subjects conducted in Kolkata by NICED. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), a body, which has the sanction of the World Health Organisation (WHO), has approved the vaccine.
