Highlighting the strength of the agriculture sector in India, Food Minister K.V. Thomas in New Delhi on Monday said that the national food production was high despite drought and floods plaguing around 100 districts of the country. The Food Minister's comments come soon after India's food inflation accelerated for the third straight week on rising prices of onions and petrol, putting pressure on headline inflation and reinforcing expectations of more monetary action this year to tame. Briefing reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with state ministers, Thomas maintained food production was going according to the expectations of the Indian government.
