JD (U)-BJP Split: Nitish calls for vote of confidence

Bihar chief Minister Nitish Kumar today met Governor DY Patil and informed him that his party was no longer in alliance with the BJP. Kumar has also sought a fresh vote of confidence in the House to prove his majority in the legislature to be conducted on June 19. The Bihar chief minister needs 122 to prove majority in the house. Kumar reportedly has the support of 118 MLAs and five independents. Earlier in the day, the JD (U) finalised a resolution that will explain its reasons for ending the alliance.
