Updated on Oct 08, 2012 11:14 pm IST
Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar today said that the state has today submitted before the Supreme Court that it wouldn't be able to release more water from the Cauvery river to neighbouring Tamil Nadu due to drought. Karnataka has moved the apex court to challenge the decision of the CRA, which is headed by Prime minister and consists of chief ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. He contended that there was shortage of drinking water and water for the standing crops. Meanwhile, the Union water resource minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has assured that the government would protect the interest of both warring southern states.
