Kashmir walnut industry feels heat of global meltdown

Just when Kashmir's walnut kernel had begun doing brisk business in the international markets, recession hits hard and rates tumble, resulting in heavy losses to the growers, traders and exporters. Walnut traders in Kashmir valley said that the demand for the walnut kernels was good in the world markets till 2007 but this year there are virtually no orders pouring in from traditionally importing countries like Europe, America and the Gulf.
