The waste dumping ground in Kolkata has been virtually turned into a vegetable bowl and delivers the requirements of all municipal markets in the city. A huge area of more than 800 hectares serves as a dumping ground where solid wastes from all parts of the city are dumped. Every year, large quantities of seasonal vegetables are cultivated in this dumping ground on a cooperative basis and about 3500 acres of pond area is used for fish farming.
