Kottyam locals oppose entry of women in Mahalakshmi temple
After the authorities allowed the entry of women into the famous Mahalakshmi temple in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, locals in Kottayam town of Kerala on Saturday expressed unhappiness to the change in rules, saying such practice was against the traditional custom. Shockingly, some locals maintained that permitting women to pray inside the shrines would make them impure.Several Hindu temples across India traditionally ban or restrict women and lower caste people, while a few others prohibit non-Hindu people.
