Anti-nuke protests intensified, as villagers residing in the vicinity of the controversial Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu buried themselves in neck-deep sand along the beach. MDMK General Secretary, V. Gopalsamy who is popularly known as 'Vaiko', lashed out at the central and state governments and asked them to remove the Kudankulam atomic plant from the area. He further added that the nuclear power plant would be dangerous for the people of the country. The demonstrators reiterated their stand saying emissions from the plant pose threat to the environment, which would eventually affect fishing, their only means of survival and render them jobless.
