Land acquisition bill in next session: Chidambaram
Updated on May 13, 2011 08:53 pm IST
Amid the raging unrest over land acquisition in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi on Thursday said that it would bring in a new land acquisition law for better compensation and rehabilitation of farmers. Chidambaram said the government had earlier drafted the law but failed to build political consensus on the issue, that is why the bill could not be tabled in the Parliament. However, the Home Minister said the government had made some amendments to the bill.
